meet scott jackson

I married fellow Highland high school graduate, Ruthanne Hansen. We have five children (Jackson five) Elizabeth, Scott, David, Matt and Megan. Our grandchildren count continues to grow exponentially, and currently all children make their homes in Utah! We enjoy tennis, golf, hiking, biking, skiing and boating. We love living in such a beautiful place and among such good people and enjoy looking up at the Majestic Rocky Mountains.… It never gets old!

I entered BYU as a freshman in 1971 and played on the freshman basketball team the year the Marriott Center opened. I also played on the BYU varsity tennis team under coach Wayne Pearce, father of the current tennis coach, Brad Pearce. I loved playing for the Cougars and am still an avid supporter of the school and its athletic teams.

I have been in practice since finishing 11 years of postgraduate school at Tulane Medical School, New Orleans Louisiana (1978-1982) and University of California, Irvine Orthopedic Residency program (1982-1989).

My sports medicine fellowship training was done under the direction of Doctors Lloyd Ireland and James Andrews in Lexington,Kentucky and Birmingham, Alabama where I covered football games in the SEC conference.  I have also enjoyed covering BYU and Timpview High School sports!

My older brothers Robert and Richard and Dr. DeVon Nelson and I were team doctors for Brigham Young University for several years in the 1980s and 1990s. This took us all over the land caring for the Cougars. The first football game I covered was BYU vs. Miami in 1989, where we upset the pre-season #1 team in Cougar stadium. That was a game I will always remember

I took a 3 year hiatus from 2012-2015 when Ruthanne and I served as mission president and wife in the Spain, Madrid Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We are happy to be back home among family and friends, and I am enjoying my professional work as an orthopedic surgeon now more than ever!
